Getting Into the Real Estate Development Business

Getting a real estate license

Getting a real estate license is necessary for many people who want to become a part of the real estate development industry. There are a number of ways to do this, including taking a real estate pre-licensing course. These classes are typically taught in person by real estate professionals. Community colleges also offer real estate courses that fulfill state pre-licensing requirements.

To obtain a real estate license, applicants must pass the required state and federal exams. These exams usually consist of two parts – a national portion and a state-specific section. In order to pass the exam, applicants must receive a passing grade in both sections. If a candidate fails one part, he or she will have to retake the test. Generally, the exam is in multiple-choice format. The number of questions and time allowed will vary by state.

In addition to obtaining a real estate license, individuals can also become brokers or sales agents. Many real estate developers begin their careers as real estate agents, helping clients buy and sell homes. These professionals may come from diverse backgrounds, including finance, urban planning, and construction.
